Dong-gu’s daldongne, or hillside neighborhoods, carry the history of families who lived through Korea’s rapid urbanization, industrial growth, and displacement. Many elderly residents in these communities once built their lives around labor, fishing, markets, and family kitchens, but now face aging and isolation in a city that has changed around them. Kimchi with Kindness began because we believe food can carry memory, dignity, and care. By making and delivering kimchi and Korean side dishes, we hope to offer more than a meal: we hope to create connection, listen to stories, and remind our elderly neighbors that they are still part of a community that remembers them.
